Bangkok Chinatown Tour Historic Walk

In the pass 2 months, I have visited Chinatown almost every weekend. Buay and I would like to observe the routing that we can learn about our route. 

What is so special of Bangkok Chinatown? 

1. It is colorful place with long history
2. Bangkok China town is a good place for walking for half day
3. The best place to get best food
4. It is easy to access by metro but if you bring car, beware of parking fee which is very expensive
5. Small Chinese and Vietnamese temple are interested
6. I want to hear people talk in my grand father dialogue
7. Lot of Chinese ingredient that we can buy for cooking Chinese food
8. We can check the gold daily rate and we can buy a new one for top quality 

History of Bangkok Chinatown ( Yoawarat ) 

This Chinese settlement establish in 1782 which is the same period that Bangkok built. The new Chinese neighborhood  nowadays named after Yaowarat Road, became Bangkok's main center of commerce for the following two centuries. Formerly impoverished peasants worked their way up to become the backbone of trade in Siam. It also became known as a seedy area thriving on brothels, gambling houses and opium dens, though these activities are illegal nowadays and no longer to be found in the district. The business center of the district moved from Sampeng Lane to Yaowarat Road and Charoen Krung Road in 1891, when those roads were built by a decree of King Rama V.

Many people come and stop by Chinatown for one hour or less. Quickly walk through the old market and continue to other destination. In fact, Load of history of this community that you can learn and visit. For instance, Sampeang lane which has lot of souvenir . There are also temples which is consist of 3 Chinese temples, 6 Vietnamese temples and Hindu temples in close area. 

Bangkok Chinatown and Food

If you like street food, you can come to Chinatown in evening, you can get the food here. In fact, there are food selling all day long. In the early morning, there are few choice of Congee soup and Kuay Jub ( thick noodle with crispy pork) . For Lunch, load of selection of noodle, Dim Sum and to go food selection. There are also  Pomegranate Juice , Chinese tea and juice.

To Reach Chinatown  

Go to Bangkok Chinatown by metro is subway line at Hua Lam Phong train station then take a  tuk tuk ride to China town or walk for 20 minute. In next two years ( 2015 ), the subway extension will be there . I quite sure that the China town will be more busy with tourist. I wish that the traffic will not change the color of Chinatown. I hope local sell the same product and do not turn to souvenir shop. 

Chinese and Vietnamese and Hindu temples

This is one of place with various nations, believe and life style. The small area of 10 sq kms has various kind of temples. I think this is one the most diversify in culture and believe in Thailand. It has so much color in temples and worth seeing.

Chinese dialogue

I have 2 grand pa which originate from Southern of China. I speak little Choa Cha , but i feel like home when i hear some communication in that dialogue. When i was young , my mom always talk to me in that Chinese Dialogue. But i forget all. The funniest thing is when we go to China town. We saw the Thai who work for Thai-Chinese employer , they can communicate very well in Choa cho , and I feel petty some time since i can only pick a few word.

Bangkok Chinatown has 3 markets in small lanes. During the day, they sell all goods such as shark fin, bird net, fish mow, Chrysanthemum tea หรือ Flower tea and many more. People come here for best quality ingredient since very early morning till late afternoon. You need to mind your step since the local are busy with shopping and all around the street. It is very un-organize traffic, and some time the floor is soaking wet. However, first time visitor or those who come from western country should not miss this place and perhaps buy some fruit and Dessert back to your hotel for tasting .

Golden street 

There are over 100 Golden stores in Bangkok Chinatown. The Chinese is the first commercial  gold trade group . They craftsman work is also easy to find . The quality of gold here is very good that why people always come here for buy and sell gold. In the pass 10 years, the people around the country come Chinatown to buy and sell gold for speculation as well as for investment. It is fine-line of  this two word between speculation and investment. Lot of people who do it early people should be a big winner . Good luck.
